Transcript: Season 1 Trailer

Ritu G. Mehrish: Welcome to Rewrite the Rules, My name is Ritu Mehrish and I interview successful women leaders to discover how they’re rewriting the rules of life, career, and relationships. Everyone had something to say and it was really difficult to find my voice.

LayPeng: If you go to a meeting with all the big bosses, you are silent, sitting in the corner taking notes. And even if you have a voice, they don’t give you the chance to speak.

Rejina Rahim: I just said, this is how you should do things. So the bosses were very happy that okay, something that they could take away and implement quite quickly, and make themselves look good.

Prof. Sun Sun Lim: Between being pregnant, nursing, school, and so on, there was just very little opportunity to do the long trips to make yourself, really visible.

Rajchanee: We have an executive retreat and the activities there are so masculine, right? They have, uh, soccer things like that, which I can’t play, and I have to sit aside.

Ami Moris: Even when you did get invited, they were not things that you felt comfortable doing karaoke nights with clients, et cetera.

Sasibai Kimis: But you also know that as a woman, when you say it’s not okay, people will say, you know, proves the point right? A lot of the time I could be the only woman at the table. And the client asked me if I could get the coffee.

Zalina: He asked me, are you the PA? And I said, no, I’m the VP of this department.

Pei Lin Cho: I remember I think we coded him maybe $12,000 and he said, I’ll pay you $2000. We were 25 or 26.

Anna Haotanto: Looking back, I think we were definitely bullied when you’re a man and you say, Hey, go and do this, you’re being authoritative. But when I say certain things like that’ve been told that stop being so aggressive, you sound very fierce.

Aarti Dabas: It’s funny, I was allowed to feel a woman when there was some harassment happening, you know? But otherwise, I had to be a man to survive in that world, which meant no vulnerability, no emotions always showing confidence.

Ardelia Apti: Is success winning an argument at a meeting? Or is success kind of like building peace
